I Gave In

Posted by on May 23, 2005 in Personal Interests | Comments Off

I finally decided that if I wanted a really good e-mail account that I might as well get it from the company I’ve come to rely on for most everything. As of June 1 I will no longer be using my Yahoo e-mail account (I actually pay the $20/year fee for POP access) and have decided to take advantage of the sweet .Mac sale going on right now. I can get the .Mac account for $30.00 off the retail $99.99 price. I realize I’m actually paying more for an e-mail (some of you may grimace at paying for e-mail – I used to be just like you) but I believe this will be the answer for my particular...

iPod Just Got Better

Posted by on Apr 9, 2005 in Personal Interests | Comments Off

A recent post by Christopher Breen inspired me to modify my iPod to display the battery life in numeric format. The default battery indicator icon looked fine but didn’t provide enough information as to the total amount of time remaining. This may not be important to some, but if you are like me and use your Backlight pretty much all the time, even during the day, knowing exactly how much time you have left can prove to be rather important. Anyway, I tried the simple modification which took less than 5 minutes to complete and thought I’d post a couple pictures of what it looks like since...

My Life Poster

Posted by on Feb 7, 2005 in Personal Interests | Comments Off

I’ve been struggling to find the time to finish this simple project for about a week now. I believe it really should take about 20-30 min. if you’ve got good images that are ready to go. I however was not so lucky. I had to alter in some way or another all 98 photos to get the exact look I wanted. Due to the fact that I have several thousand photos in iPhoto, I had to decide early on what 98 photos whould win a coveted spot in my life poster. The easiest solution I could come up with was to pick 98 photos per year. Sort of like a poster sized yearbook. So, in this case I chose the year...

Punxsatawney Phil Connors

Can’t help but get through this day without remembering what Groundhog Day means to me. I was senior in high school when this movie was released and it still holds up after nearly 12 years. Phil Connors: “This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather.” Unfortunately, I do not share the same passion as do the residents of Punxsatawney, PA. I can’t even say Gobbler’s Knob without smirking. Something about that tradition just isn’t right. BTW – Phil says 6 more weeks of winter! Thanks Captain...

TiVo Home Media Option

TiVo Home Media Option

It works! It wasn’t supposed to be that easy but it really was. I have been the proud owner of a TiVo for going on nearly 2 years. However I have never been able to take advantage of the mysterious “Music and Photo” option that has been taunting me on TiVo Central for so long. I wish I could say it was because I didn’t have a home network but not only do I have one, it’s wireless. Anyway, about 6 months ago, I attempted to connect my TiVo box using an unnamed wireless adapter that just simply failed to deliver. No matter what I tried, my TiVo just couldn’t see my network....

My Ten Favorite Things

My Ten Favorite Things

I was inspired to write this post after a recent visit to Mike Davidson’s blog. My intention here is to list my top ten favorite things. This list represents what I consider to be the most useful items in my arsenal. The list will undoubtedly change over time and does not warrant mention of the obvious like family and friends. This is merely a list of my favorite gadgets and gizmos. This list is in no particular order. 2003 Honda Accord EX – The all-weather floormats keep everything nice and new. Still wish I would have opted for the V-6 though. TiVo – I can’t imagine what I...
