Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background? What got you interested in this particular project?
I’ve been in the internet marketing industry for over 10 years at this points. I started as a marketing associate at a small vitamin company and eventually worked my way up to a corporate digital marketing manager overseeing and training the marketing staff at 10 different educational institutions.
I started JobsForFelonsHub.com to help a family member out who had a record and was having a hard time finding a job.? I really liked the thought of the project because I could make money while helping others. It started with a researched list of employers and expanded to what it’s become today.??
How is the content created for this website? Are you working with contributors or is it all done yourself?
The first year of the site I spent much of my time writing the content, but to grow I decided to outsource this part of the business.? To find a writer for this site, I used our own email list and found a qualified individual who was willing to take on the job.? For as long as I can remember he has been helping me create content for the site.? I’ve been the editor for the content as well as I wanted to keep a pulse on what was being done.
How much time do you spend on this business both now and when it was more of a focus for you?
When it was a focus for me, I spent 100% of my time focused on it.? This happened for the first 1.5 years in the business.? After that, I treated it as a part-time job and focused on other projects.? The problem now is that my other projects take up all of my time and energy and I’ve neglected the site.? I’d say in a given week I probably spend 2-3 hours dealing with this site.
Are there any peculiar rules or regulations to note when creating content or running a job board for former felons?
In terms of the content, I am always very careful about legal advice and always insist that the reader seek legal counsel if they’d like more details.? I was always careful with the way things were worded to not make definitive statements that could get me into legal trouble.??In terms of the job board, once in a while I will get a company that asks to be pulled off of our job board and we work with our job board API provider to get them off of our platform.? Whoever the buyer is will get this email template that has been accepted by the 5-10 companies that have asked to be pulled off our site since it started.
What do you think the single best opportunity for revenue growth would be if you had the time to get it done?
I have to give two opportunities as one is very obvious.? The obvious one is to revise the content.? Most of this content hasn’t been re-written in years and with some polishing up, I have no doubt many SEO rankings will increase, especially given the strength of the domain.? The second is creating educational content and selling it to the audience.? Many of the sites visitors are the families of those who are former felons looking to help them, if you take the time to create a training portal to help this could be very lucrative.?
